Shark Posters Are TerrifyingMaybe it is the way they are shaped like a weapon, or maybe it is the lifeless look in their eyes right up until they strike, or maybe it is just all of the teeth that makes sharks so terrifying to people. Whatever it is there are few things you can put on your wall that will offer a more instant terrified reaction that shark posters. If you take that to the next level and go with a Great White shark poster then you have complete horror. There is just something about the way a shark looks that makes it totally horrific and Great White shark posters are the most popular of the lot especially with the release of the hit movie Jaws. In 1975 Steve Spielberg got his chance to direct his first real big budget movie when he directed the hit movie Jaws. Jaws was a simple story about a huge Great White shark that was killing people off of the coast of a small island near Long Island, New York. Jaws was probably one of the last great poster movies as the shark prints they used to promote that movie were horrifying showing a huge monster shark ready to kill a young swimming female. That shark poster stayed in the minds of everyone who saw it and helped to make Jaws one of the biggest grossing movies of 1975 and also helped to drop attendance at beaches all over the world. It showed the power of a good poster and it also showed that you didn’t need to do very much to a picture of a Great White shark to make it terrifying. Jaws helped to create a myth around Great White sharks that really was not true. Great White sharks were never really known as unprovoked man killers. They are an efficient hunting machine but they do not purposely hunt man as prey. But it is the way they look that attracts and repels people with Great White sharks. After decades of getting a bad reputation the Dreamworks company decided to do something about the reputation that Jaws had given Great White sharks. In 2004 Dreamworks release the animated movie Shark Tale and the Shark Tale poster showed Great White sharks as loveable characters. Shark Tale posters started appearing all over the world and even though the movie did great at the box office it was still considered a flop. Maybe people just don’t want their Great White sharks loveable after all. The irony of that is the guy behind creating the Dreamworks company is Steven Spielberg. It must have been feelings of guilt that drove Spielberg to try and make it up to Great White sharks for ruining their reputation all those years ago. Nice try Mr. Spielberg but as usual the monster you created is more enduring than the loveable characters. Sharks are probably the most misunderstood creatures in the world and there are hundreds of shark posters available that show a Great White shark with its mouth open displaying those razor sharp teeth and jumping right out at you. Unfortunately the truth is much more boring than fiction. |
