Contributing With Zoo PostersZoos are a topic that can cause some heated conversation from various groups of people. There are those that believe that the animals should be let go to live their lives in the wild as they were intended and that man has no right to cage them up and put them on display. Then there are those that believe that zoos provide a service to animals that may be on the verge of extinction or may need protection of some sort. The anti-zoo people will argue that wild life preserves are more than sufficient for protecting endangered species while still allowing the animals their natural habitat. Pro-zoo people will say that sometimes a very controlled environment is exactly what certain species of animals need to save their kind and to make sure they are not eradicated from the face of the planet. Zoos appear to be a lot of things and in many cases they try and do a service by the animals. The zoos look like attempts by the animal loving population to help correct the wrongs done by the animal destroying part of mankind. Many of the endangered species in zoos are there because man made them endangered. Man either hunted them to the point of extinction or destroyed the animals habitat to the point where they can no longer survive in the numbers they used to survive. Zoos also help foster an appreciation between people and animals by offering people access to animals they may not otherwise be exposed to and therefore helping those people appreciate what a real rhino looks like or what a real elephant sounds like. It is that appreciation that can help to plant the seed in some people that will have them working for the preservation of animals when they become adults and possibly working for zoos in the future. Not all zoos are run by well meaning animal lovers but most public zoos are and those zoos not only help people to appreciate the animals they have but also to help care for animals that the public may never see. In America we usually don’t have cows, horses, or deer in our zoos and that is because we see them everyday in our country. In a zoo you can see animals you would not normally see everyday and that helps to breed appreciation. Many zoos use zoo posters to help raise funds for their programs and to keep their zoos open. You can buy the zoo prints at the zoo or on the internet. Either way when you buy a zoo poster you are helping that zoo stay open and do the work that it does. Zoos do provide essential functions and those functions, in many ways, cannot be provided by any other means. So support your local zoo and head out to buy a zoo poster. It isn’t such a bad thing to have an exotic animal on your wall for a good cause and to help further the appreciation of the things we do not see on a daily basis. |
